Aberdeen City Council is seeking to appoint a new Artistic Director with vision and drive to take Citymoves Dance Agency forward into the next phase of its development.  Citymoves is key part of Aberdeen City Council’s Culture, Heritage & Communities Service in addition to being a Creative Scotland Foundation Funded Organisation (2009 – 2012).  You will be responsible for the overall artistic vision and oversee the practical leadership of the dance agency for the Northeast of Scotland.  Building on current strengths and profile you will be responsible for developing new strategies that support innovation & excellence in dance while continuing to reach the broadest audience.

Composers and Choreographers October School

11th  – 16th October 2010
Led by Ian Spink & Bill Thompson

Applications are invited from choreographers, composers, dancers and musicians to participate in a six day residential workshop held by Citymoves Dance Agency.

The October School will give professional creative artists (choreographers and composers) the chance to work together on six one-day projects, alongside dancers and musicians who will act as performers and collaborators in the projects undertaken.

Opportunities for Composers & Choreographers
Each creator will have the opportunity to work with five different collaborators and work with skilled performers to realise their work. Creators will be provided with shared accommodation in Aberdeen and a fee of £100 per day.

Opportunities for Dancers and Musicians
Performers will benefit from working with leading composers and choreographers and will experience different creative processes, as well as having comprehensive daily warm-up sessions. Places are limited, and participants will be expected to take part on a voluntary basis. Subsidised shared accommodation can be provided in Aberdeen at a cost of £120 for the week.

To apply, please email a short CV of your work or training experience with a covering statement saying how you would hope to benefit from this experience, to jphillips@aberdeencity.gov.uk, by August 31st 2010.  Composers and choreographers should have been working professionally for at least two years, and dancers and musicians should have worked professionally or have been in full-time training for at least 3 years.

Fusion Youth Dance Company AUDITIONS

Your chance to join Aberdeen’s youth dance company “Fusion”. This exciting project is open to dancers aged 12 – 18 years who have had previous dance experience and are interested in contemporary and creative dance styles.

Hello! Thank you for your patience regarding booking for the new term. We are pleased to outline the Autumn programme below and open bookings, although some small changes may still need to happen, in which case we will update you here. 

Block 1 Mon 23rd August – Sat 9th October

Block 2 Mon 1st November – Sat 18th December

Unless otherwise stated, classes are for adults 16+. Concession rates are shown in brackets and apply to students, over 60s and those on income support, on production of valid ID. 

Drop-in classes (D) – Simply turn up and pay on the door. Admission is on a first come, first served basis due to maximum class numbers.

 

Blocks (B) - For courses it is essential to book and pay in advance as these courses are popular and fill up very quickly. Call us on 01224 611486 to book, or send an e-mail to citymoves@aberdeencity.gov.uk. Prices shown are for one block. Once booked places must be paid for within 7 days. Pop into the office or send a cheque (made payable to Aberdeen City Council) to Citymoves, c/o Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill, Aberdeen, AB10 1FQ.

“BUDDING BALLET STARS”  ages 5-7

Join us on a magical adventure  exploring the Nutcracker ballet. A celebration of dances dreaming of toy soldiers, the Land of Sweets and sugar plum fairies. There will be a showing for family and friends on the last day. Cost £30.

Tues 20th – Fri 23rd July  1.00 – 4.00pm

“DANCE ABILITY”  ages 16+

Disability is no barrier to creativity. By breaking down inhibitions and focusing energy, workshop participants will be inspired and motivated to create a dance piece that will be shown on the final day. Dancers with and without disabilities are welcome. Cost £35.

Aberdeen Dance Collective Showing

Aberdeen Dance Collective (dancers Linzy McAvoy, Lynn Brown, Jessica Lee and Katie Milroy) are in the studio until Monday 12th July and invite to you a free showing of their work on Monday at 4pm. Come along to citymoves studio and support the girls!

Research Project with Ian Spink – Opportunity

Applications are requested from Scottish based professional contemporary dancer/actors for a 3 day research period with choreographer Ian Spink and composer Bill Thompson in Aberdeen.

The project will be based at Citymoves and will be paid at TMA minimum rates plus travel and accomodation. The project dates are July 5-7 and we are looking for 2 performers who are able to improvise in movement and character work and are open to using objects, materials, text and found information as part of the research process.
