Dance/movement therapy provides therapeutic benefits through movement, which can replace or complement counselling or psychological treatment. It combines psychology and movement to benefit the emotional, social, physical and mental health of the individual.

THANIA ACARON started and developed her career as a dancer, choreographer and educator in Puerto Rico. In 2001, she travelled to New York to do her Master’s in Dance Education, then became a dance/movement therapist and licensed creative arts therapist. Thania now teaches dance/movement therapy, modern dance, behaviour management and violence prevention workshops all over the world.

No booking required, just turn up and pay on the door. Wear comfy clothes and bring a water bottle.

MUSICAL THEATRE  ages 16+

Mondays 7.30-8.30pm at HMT Studio (at the stage door of His Majesty’s Theatre). Starting 23rd Jan.

The tutor is professional dancer/choreographer Mark Cameron who has taught for Citymoves for a few years now, specialising in jazz, hip hop and musical theatre.

You’ll get a great work out while learning fab routines to hit Broadway and West End shows. Work on your turns, kicks and different musical theatre dance styles. Come along on Monday and give it a try! Cost £5 (£4.50 conc) on the door.

THROUGH LABAN/BARTENIEFF MOVEMENT STUDIES

                                                    A WORKSHOP WITH PEGGY HACKNEY – May 28th – June 1st 2012

Peggy Hackney returns to Edinburgh after her hugely successful residency at Dance Base in June 2011. Her theme in May 2012 continues the “Integrating Polarities” theme with a focus on taking your “Breath Body into Space”.

Peggy’s practice in the use of Breath as an inroad to Body Patterning supports ease of coordination and a sense of wholeness as we move into relationship with others – in dance, in therapy or in everyday life. Every human “speaks” expressively using personal Breath, Body, and Spatial Phrasing. This residency will bring a refreshing self-awareness through this material and will offer new perspectives on our non-verbal communication with others.

• Discover how your Breath Patterns set up pathways of relationship in Space and become your dynamic partner
• Practice using clear Spatial Intent to enhance your body’s internal connections and communication
• Explore your own “Movement Signature” in Space and how this may be perceived by others
• Learn to pay attention to your use of Space in relationships, work environments and choreography

Although some level of familiarity with the material is helpful, no prerequisite training is necessary. Completion of the week will supply 20 hours towards the prerequisite experience required to apply for the full LMA training which will be starting in Edinburgh in June, 2012.

Circus Space is working with one of the Presenting Partners of the Olympic Torch Relay to recruit a 22-strong cast of multi-skilled highly physical performers. Working with Creative Director Sue Broadway the cast will deliver a diverse range of performances that will travel the UK with the Olympic Torch during summer 2012.

We are seeking applications from a diverse range of male and female performers of all ages who can offer a high level of skill and have performing experience in at least two of the following areas:
 Acrobatics (solo and/or partner-based)
 Acrobalance, handstands, Chinese pole
 Dance (especially street dance, break dance, popping)
 Ball skills, rhythmic gymnastics
 Bouncing Stilts (power skips), Pogo Sticks
 Parkour
 Wheel-based skills (rollerblades, rollerskates, skateboard, BMX, trick bike)
 Street theatre, live outdoor performance or roving experience
 MC, close-up engagement with an audience
 Live graffiti artist/performer
 Aerial (single point, extremely low height)
 Any other eccentric/unusual, portable close-up skills (rubix cube, balancing objects, cat’s cradle, magic etc)
You will need to be able to offer a short high-quality act (either solo or duet) in at least one of the above skills. A full clean driving license would also be desirable.

The Olympic Torch Relay will take place from 19 May until 27 July 2012. It is an intensive 70 day (10 week) tour of the UK that will travel within 10 miles of 95% of the population. Each day will culminate with the arrival of the torch at one of 70 designated Celebration Sites. The performances will be street, stage and vehicle-based and will involve a considerable amount of live, face to face audience interaction. Consequently, you will need to be a confident, enthusiastic and flexible team player who is prepared to work long but very rewarding hours.

Rehearsals will take place in London in April 2012. The contract will be full-time from 19 May to 27 July 2012 with one rest day per week. Accommodation throughout the tour is provided as is transport between celebration sites (on rest days). The fee is competitive.

Auditions will take place in London on 20th December and 7th January. In Bristol on 8th January and in Edinburgh on 10th January.

There is no deadline but you will need to provide the information before you can be invited to audition.

Should Citymoves have to close due to snow we will update our answering service with a recorded message and update our website, Facebook page and Twitter.

Generally Citymoves will be closed if the city centre schools are closed or if staff members are unable to make it into Citymoves due to dangerous travel conditions. If bad weather persists we will attempt to make a decision on closure the day before so morning class participants can contact Citymoves the night before.
